Nomenclature of Aldehydes

• IUPAC Rules for naming Aldehydes

  • Identify longest contineous chain having carbonyl Carbon
  • Number beginning with Carbonyl Carbon as #1
  • Name all branched groups alphebetically as before
  • Use Normal Alkane name corresponding to number of carbons in contineous chain
  • Drop the “e” and add “al” to Alkane name
